Refugee’s
Dear Parents, this year my reading group has been reading a book called Refugee, it is a very good book and it can tell you about the lives of a refugee.
Why Do People Become Refugees
People become refugees because they lived in a country and didn’t like it there because of bombing or shooting or anything like that. So they move to a country that is better than theirs. They might get to a different country by building a boat or saving up money to get a trip by a public boat. They might travel for days just to get somewhere safe where there is no bombing and shooting.
Why Should We Help Refugees
We should help refugees because they have the same rights as us but people treat them differently because of their background in the past. Just think of how it would feel if you were treated differently just because you lived in a poorer country and you were frightened of bombings and people shooting one of your friends.
What Countries Do NZ Refugees Come From
NZ refugees usually come from Iraq, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iran, Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Sudan, Afghanistan, Colombia and Burma. Many refugees live in Wellington where there are many cultures.
What Local Organisations Do We Have To Help
New Zealand has lots of places for refugees to get stuff from that is not too expensive. For example The Salvation Army and any Op shop.
What Can We Do To Help
We could put more old clothes into The Salvation Army and stores like that. We could try and put more effort into getting nice places for them to live and stay for the night.
How Can Refugees Help Us
Refugees can help us by understanding their life before they moved to a new country. They can help us understand what they went through.
From Molly😋
Very informative information here Molly, well done. Did you enjoy the book? It really makes you appreciate our lives here in NZ don't you think? We are very very lucky that we don't have to live daily with bombings, war and shootings, it must be very terrifying. Refugees that arrive here in NZ must be incredibly resilient and its great that you understand some ways in which we can help them. Ka pai.
